N.I.O.S.H. has concluded that exposure to N2O decreases mental performance, audiovisual ability and dexterity. A recent study of workers indicated that adverse reproductive effects may also result from chronic exposure to N2O. N.I.O.S.H. recommends monitoring/testing when anesthetic equipment is installed and periodic monitoring thereafter.
